AT&T boosts network coverage

AT&T customers in the greater Binghamton and Syracuse regions will soon see improved Internet coverage and voice performance due to enhancements the company has made to its mobile Internet network.

Specifically, the improvements target Binghamton, Johnson City, and downtown Syracuse.

“Customers are using their smartphones, tablets, and laptops more than ever before, driving an increased demand for expanded mobile broadband connectivity,” Marissa Shorenstein, AT&T’s New York president, said in a news release. “We plan to continue to invest aggressively across the state to ensure that New Yorkers, in both rural and urban areas, can have access to the technology and mobile services they need to help grow our economy.”

The network enhancement adds new layers of frequency, also known as “carriers,” to cell sites in Binghamton, Johnson City, and downtown Syracuse to more effectively manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband capacity. The expansion helps manage increasing demand by allocating more network resources for AT&T’s mobile network.

AT&T has nearly 30,000 wireless hotspots across the country and nearly 225,000 globally. AT&T provides access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries.
