AT&T plans to fill more than 140 jobs across New York

AT&T, Inc. (NYSE: T) announced it has plans to hire workers for more than 140 jobs across New York state.

The positions will focus on supporting the company’s enhancements for the state’s wireless network, AT&T said in a news release issued Wednesday.

The open positions are located in communities around New York. They include jobs in retail and technical fields, such as engineering and network, the telecommunications company said.

Outside Central New York, the company has positions open in Albany, Cheektowaga, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, Lockport, Webster, and Jamestown.

“The transformation of the communications industry is powering more choices for consumers, jobs for workers, and needed investments for communities,” Thomas DeVito, vice president and general manager, AT&T New York, said in the news release.  “AT&T continues to add jobs and invest in our 21st century networks to ensure we are providing the highest level of service consumers demand in today’s competitive marketplace.”

The hirings reflect AT&T’s “continuing” investment in its New York network and team, the company said.

In the first half of 2013, AT&T invested nearly $225 million in its wireless and wired networks in New York. The investments included deployment of new macro sites, small cells and distributed-antenna systems across the state as part of AT&T’s Project Velocity-IP (Internet protocol), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks.

The company also expanded and enhanced its 4G LTE network, which provides “ultra-fast” mobile-Internet speeds, and deployed new Wi-Fi hot spots.

Headquartered in Dallas, AT&T, Inc. provides telecommunications services to consumers, businesses, and other providers in the U.S. and internationally.
