SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Barclay Damon LLP has added 20 attorneys who previously worked for a Richmond, Virginia–based law firm that recently dissolved.
The lawyers previously worked for the LeClairRyan firm and joined Barclay Damon, effective Aug. 30, per a Barclay Damon news release.
The group includes three attorneys in New York City, five lawyers in Boston, and 12 attorneys in New Haven, Connecticut. The New Haven office represents a new primary office location in the firm’s Northeast platform, it said.
LeClairRyan’s partners voted to dissolve the law firm after a 31-year run, per an Aug. 8 news article posted on the website of the ABA Journal, a publication of the American Bar Association. The article indicated the firm closed “amid budget shortfalls, partner exits.”
Three lawyers joined Barclay Damon as equity partners and the balance as contract partners or associates. The additional attorneys “strengthen areas of strategic growth” for Barclay Damon, including bankruptcy, labor and employment, higher education, finance, real estate, and litigation, several of which have national reach.
With the new lawyers, Syracuse–based Barclay Damon now has nearly 300 attorneys across the firm, per the release.
Adding attorneys in Boston and New York City advances a “key” Barclay Damon strategy of growing the firm’s major-market offices, which also include Washington D.C. and Toronto. The new Connecticut office is “optimally located” between New York City and Boston and will “strengthen” the firm’s ability to support client needs throughout the Northeast, Barclay Damon contends.
“Strategic additions like this allow us to add strong talent to our service offerings and provide integrated legal services to our clients,” Connie Cahill, deputy managing partner at Barclay Damon, added in the release. “We are always interested in meeting with talented attorneys, groups, and firms looking to expand their breadth of services and who will embrace Barclay Damon’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and diversity and inclusion.”
