Barclay Damon names Kerwin and Scarfone partners

Matt Kerwin

Kerwin is a member of the firm’s telecommunications, land use & zoning, project development, and energy practice areas and its renewable energy team. He counsels individuals and businesses on a range of land use and development matters with a focus on representing wireless-telecommunications providers and tower companies in the acquisition of land use and zoning approvals across New York. Kerwin has served as special counsel to several municipalities on zoning-compliance matters on many development projects.

Nick Scarfone

Scarfone is a member of the firm’s tax, corporate, and trusts and estates practice areas and its Canada/cross-border and cannabis teams. He is an experienced tax lawyer and a CPA with a track record of planning and implementing effective tax-driven structures and transactions, Barclay Damon said. Scarfone has a range of legal and business experience, including handling regulatory compliance matters for for-profit and not-for-profit clients, including educational institutions, and structuring and implementing mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, debt workouts, financing transactions, tax credit deals, and complex executive-compensation arrangements. In addition, Scarfone has negotiated favorable settlements for clients in tax controversies, both civil and criminal, Barclay Damon said.

“This was a no-brainer. Matt and Nick’s achievements for clients, their commitment to service, and their dedication to our communities are exactly the qualities our firm and clients expect from our partners. I am proud to welcome these two exceptional attorneys to Barclay Damon’s partnership,” John Langan, Barclay Damon’s managing partner, said in a news release.

Barclay Damon was formed in 2015 with the combination of Syracuse–based Hiscock & Barclay and the Buffalo–based Damon Morey. Barclay Damon currently has 12 offices throughout New York state and in Boston, Newark, Toronto, and Washington D.C.
