COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — The board of directors of Bassett Healthcare Network announced it has elected Douglas Hastings as its new chairman.

The board elected Hastings during Bassett’s annual meeting on July 16 in Cooperstown. Hastings succeeds Ralph Meyer who has completed his term as board chair.

Meyer is the former CEO of the Guthrie health system and he will remain on the board.

Hastings, a current board member and chair of the board’s quality oversight committee, is chair emeritus in the Washington, D.C. office of law firm Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. where he specialized in health-care law.

He and his wife, Ginny have a home on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown.

“Bassett Healthcare has been committed to providing the people of this region with the care they need to live the healthiest lives possible for nearly 100 years,” Hastings said in the Bassett news release. “I am honored to serve as a steward of this vitally important organization and look forward to working with my fellow board members and all of our over 4,600 dedicated clinical and administrative personnel to advance the health of our communities together.”

Bassett said three other board members were also re-elected to three-year terms, including Jane Forbes Clark of Cooperstown; Kevin Moore of Weston, Connecticut; and John Bullis of Little Falls.
