Bassett names Swinko new corporate CFO

Paul Swinko

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Bassett Healthcare Network announced it has appointed Paul G. Swinko as corporate chief financial officer at Bassett Healthcare Network and VP of finance for Bassett Medical Center, effective in January 2019.

Swinko comes to Bassett after 20 years at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was CFO of Hershey Medical Center and VP of finance for Penn State Health.

As a finance executive with more than 25 years of health-care experience, Swinko will be the financial, insurance, capital, debt, and overall business strategist for Bassett Healthcare Network, the organization said in a news release. The network includes Bassett Medical Center, A.O. Fox Hospital, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, O’Connor Hospital, Little Falls Hospital, Valley Health Services, First Community Care of Bassett, At Home Care, Inc., more than 50 clinics, the Templeton Foundation, and Friends of Bassett. As CFO, Swinko will have oversight of the 200-plus member finance team, revenue-cycle performance, and reimbursement.

“The corporate CFO position provides me an exciting next step in my professional career. In my visits during the interview process, the interactions with staff and leadership teams solidified my belief that Bassett is a great organizational fit for me,” Swinko said in the release.

He continued, “My previous experience at an academic medical center provides me the ability to add value to Bassett’s missions of patient care, teaching and research. The integration of the Bassett Medical Group within the Bassett Healthcare Network is a strength for a physician led organization such as Bassett. This was an important attribute of the Bassett Healthcare Network that influenced my decision to accept this position.”

Swinko received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and his MBA from Texas A&M University — Commerce.

Sue Andrews, current CFO and VP for Bassett Medical Center since 2014, is retiring after a 38-year career with Bassett. She has “graciously” agreed to stay on through the transition period with the arrival of Swinko, according to Diane L. Wells, senior publications coordinator at Bassett.
