HERKIMER — Valley Health Services (VHS) in Herkimer recently celebrated the most recent graduates of its nurse-aid training program that helps its resident assistants become certified nursing assistants (CNAs).
The program graduated five new CNAs on April 11, VHS announced in a news release. “At Valley Health, we are all extremely proud of these five new CNAs,” Bryan Ehlinger, the administrator who oversees the program, said in the release. “It shows remarkable commitment to their studies and dedication to our residents. We are happy to come alongside them and help advance their careers.” Peggy Cool, a registered nurse, teaches the 120-hour course through the Center for Corporate and Community Education at Mohawk Valley Community College. The program teaches basic nursing skills, preparing students to care for residents, and qualifying them to sit for the CNA exam. VHS will offer more nurse-assistant training programs soon for those interested in beginning a career in health care. Those interested in more information can call (315) 866-3330, extension 2254. VHS is a 160-bed long-term care and rehabilitation facility that offers both inpatient and outpatient services. It is part of the Bassett Healthcare Network.
