Binghamton law firm Pope, Schrader & Pope, LLP joins Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — A pair of Binghamton law firms combined on Jan. 1 with Pope, Schrader & Pope, LLP joining Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP, the latter firm announced.

Pope, Schrader & Pope is located at 2 Court St. in Binghamton, while Coughlin & Gerhart has its main office at 99 Corporate Drive in Binghamton.

Alan Pope, Kurt Schrader, and Rosemarie Pope will each become “of counsel” to Coughlin & Gerhart (C&G), Mark Gorgos, managing partner of C&G, said in a news release.

 “Pope, Schrader & Pope has a superb reputation both as a firm… and as individual lawyers, and we are proud that they believe C&G is a great fit for them and their clients,” Gorgos said in the release.

Pope, Schrader and Pope will be bringing their supports staff of four employees with them. The three attorneys and four staff members boosts C&G’s total workforce to 143, including 56 attorneys and 87 support staff, Kip Burlew, director of human resources at C&G, said in an email response to a BJNN inquiry.

Coughlin & Gerhart will be undergoing construction to expand its offices and parking facilities at its main office in Binghamton to accommodate the new attorneys, staff, and clients.

“We are deeply committed to the needs of our corporate, municipal, and individual clients,” Rosemarie Pope said in the C&G news release. “We are anxious to integrate with the overall expertise of Coughlin & Gerhart and we look forward to moving to the main office hopefully sometime in March 2019.”

Rosemarie Pope concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial law, commercial real estate, litigation, and she is the deputy town attorney for the towns of Union, Binghamton, and Colesville.

Alan Pope is a litigator, commercial law attorney, and he represents the towns of Union, Binghamton, and Colesville.

Kurt Schrader has an “extensive” general law practice, with an emphasis in family and criminal law and general civil litigation. Schrader also currently serves as the current president of the Broome County Bar Association, per the C&G release.

 Coughlin & Gerhart was founded in the 1890s. In addition to its main office in Binghamton, the firm also has branch offices in Bainbridge, Cortland, Ithaca, Owego, Hancock, Walton, and Montrose, Pennsylvania.
