VESTAL — Binghamton University will host the regional round of the 2014 New York State Business Plan Competition.
The event is set for Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Innovative Technologies Complex in Vestal, the school said in a news release.
The Southern Tier region semifinal will feature students from Binghamton University, Cornell University, Ithaca College and SUNY Broome Community College competing for a share of $10,000 in prizes and awards.
Teams will earn the right to advance to the statewide competition if a panel of judges reviews their plan “favorably,” according to Binghamton University.
The teams are competing for a share of $500,000 in the competition, the school said. More than one team from the region could advance to the statewide competition.
The rules stipulate the teams’ participants can only include undergraduate and/or graduate students along with one faculty or staff member who serves as an adviser, the news release said.
The business plans focus on categories that include biotechnology/healthcare, energy/sustainability, information technology/software, nanotechnology/advanced technology, products/services, and social entrepreneurship/nonprofit.
More than 55 colleges and universities are participating in the New York State Business Plan Competition, the school said.
The SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany will host the final statewide competition on April 25, according to the news release.
