Boilermaker 15K Road Race sells out

The Boilermaker 15K Road Race scheduled for July 9 is officially sold out. Runners still interested in participating may join the waitlist, consider entry through the Boilermaker Charity Bib program, or opt for the 5K Road Race. (Photo credit: Boilermaker Road Race)

UTICA, N.Y. — In its second year of full return after the pandemic, the Boilermaker 15k Road Race is officially sold out.

“First and foremost, we’d like to thank Boilermaker Nation for their continued support,” Boilermaker President Mark Donovan said in a press release. “The Boilermaker is known as ‘America’s Best 15K Road Race’ because of the amazing group of runners who bless us with their presence year in and year out.”

While the July 9 race is sold out of all 8,500 slots, there are options for those who didn’t register but still wish to participate. There is a waitlist people can join, Donovan said, and also a charity bib program which grants race bibs to those who raise funds for local charities.

“There is no charge or commitment to join the waitlist,” Donovan noted. When a spot opens, the person at the top of the waitlist receives an email and has 48 hours to respond.

The charity bib program was allotted about 125 bibs for 11 charity partners. Runners participating in the charity bib program receive a free entry by committing to raise at least $500 for one of those organizations.

“The charity bib program is a true win-win for the community and for runners,” Donovan noted. Since its inception, the program has raised more than $650,000 for charities.

Finally, there are still several hundred spots remaining for the 5K race, presented by Utica National Insurance.

Now in its 46th year, the in-person Boilermaker was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, with virtual events taking place. In 2021, the event returned with limited capacity and was held in October instead of the usual second Sunday in July. The event returned to its usual date in 2022 with 14,500 slots.
