Bond, Schoeneck & King appoints Otte as COO

David OtteSYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC announced it has appointed David Otte as chief operating officer (COO), assuming administrative leadership of the 260-attorney law firm based in downtown Syracuse.

Otte is formerly the chief administrative officer and chief information officer at Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, a business law firm with offices in Indianapolis, Indiana; Louisville, Kentucky; and four other cities.

As COO, he will work with Bond management on “strategic initiatives to continue the firm’s growth” across its 11 offices and among its more than 30 practice areas and industry groups, the firm said in a news release.

“David comes to us at a key time in the life of our firm. He will work with firm management to make strides with our stronger Buffalo presence; capitalize on the firm’s investment in intellectual property and photonics; bolster our national presence in labor and employment and collegiate sports; and support the new office in Saratoga Springs,” Kevin M. Bernstein, chair of Bond’s Management Committee, said in the release. “In addition, David will work with our practice groups in health care, higher education, energy, and cybersecurity, among other areas, to accomplish the firm’s initiatives.”

Before his most recent job, Otte was chief information officer at the international business law firm of Sidley Austin, which is headquartered in Chicago.

Otte received his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his MBA/MIS from DePaul University.

Otte started in his new position at Bond, Schoeneck & King on Monday and works from its headquarters office at One Lincoln Center.

The COO position is a new title at Bond, but Otte will essentially have the same role as Gary Goodwin, who was the firm’s executive director before leaving in November to take another job after nearly 15 years at Bond, per his LinkedIn page. Goodwin is now executive director at Groom Law Group, Chartered, a benefits law firm based in Washington, D.C.
