Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to host ACC Tournament in ’17, ’18

Syracuse University will return to New York City for men’s college basketball post-season tournament games for at least two years later this decade.

Brooklyn’s Barclays Center today announced a two-year agreement to host the Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) post-season men’s basketball tournament in 2017 and 2018, according to a news release on the ACC website.

The Barclays Center, which has been the home of the Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference tournament, extended its contract with the A-10 for the 2019, 20, and 21 tournaments.

The A-10 will also hold its tournament at the Barclays Center next year and in 2016 before vacating the venue for a couple years.

In addition, the ACC and the A-10 will play inter-conference, regular season doubleheaders at Barclays Center in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

The ACC is “pleased” to have its postseason tournament in the new venue, John Swofford, commissioner of the ACC, said in the news release.

“Barclays Center has quickly emerged as one of the premier sports and entertainment venues in the world and Brooklyn is a hot spot within the New York marketplace, which is an important part of our league’s new footprint,” said Swofford.

The ACC has held the tournament in seven different cities and 11 venues since the inaugural event in March 1954, according to the news release.

The Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum serves as host in 2015 and Washington D.C. will host the tournament in 2016, the ACC said.
