SYRACUSE — Burlington Coat Factory, a national off-price retail chain, announced today that it will open a new 61,000-square-foot store at the expanded Carousel Center in Syracuse this fall.
The retailer already has 32 stores in New York state, including locations in Cicero, Johnson City, and near Utica. Burlington Coat Factory, which sells apparel and home products, said it expects the Syracuse store to employ about 70 people.
Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp., based in Burlington, NJ, was founded in 1972 and has expanded from a single store selling coats, to a multi-department retail chain with more than 480 stores in 44 states and Puerto Rico.
Burlington generates almost $4 billion in annul sales and is privately owned by venture-capital firm Bain Capital, LLC, which acquired it in 2006.
