Cayuga County organizations seek employer input on workforce assessment

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce and Cayuga Economic Development Agency are seeking input from Cayuga County employers regarding their hiring and training practices, challenges, and needs.

Employers can provide input on this increasingly critical issue by taking the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CayugaWorkforce.

The organization says all Cayuga County employers — including businesses, nonprofits, and municipalities — can participate in this “important” assessment.

The survey results will help in the development of training and recruitment resources to address employers’ needs in these areas, the organizations said in a joint news release.

Survey purpose

The availability and training of workers has been an “ongoing concern” for many employers, but “recently the challenges in this area have become more pronounced,” the Cayuga County organizations contend.

More employers say they can’t find qualified candidates to fill positions. They’ve also indicated “challenges finding the appropriate” training resources to improve the skills of new and existing employees.

After hearing these concerns, Cayuga Strategic Solutions formed a workforce-development taskforce consisting of board members and “key” training and workforce-development partners.

Cayuga Strategic Solutions is a joint venture of the Cayuga Economic Development Agency and Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce.

They worked with a larger group of workforce-development partners within Cayuga County to develop the workforce-assessment survey.

The survey seeks to help identify the types of positions employers are struggling to fill, along with the level of demand for various types of training.

The ultimate goal is to identify ways to improve the connections between employers and potential workers, and to provide the resources “necessary” so the local workforce has the skills for the jobs available “now and in the future.”
