Cayuga Health introduces new coronavirus tracking tool

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cayuga Health (CH) announced it has launched a coronavirus tracking tool on its website that includes statistical data providing official numbers as they are released by the Cayuga Health sampling center in Ithaca.

The data is updated daily, Cayuga Health said in a Monday news release. Officials will also periodically update demographic numbers as “significant changes occur.”

Tracking includes regional COVID-19 tests taken at the CH sampling center, cases, hospitalizations, deaths, age, and gender. It also tracks Cayuga Health hospital capacity, supplies, and future planning as it pertains to COVID-19 and the greater surrounding communities.

The sampling center data includes results from the following counties: Broome, Cayuga, Cortland, Chemung, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates.

“We are very pleased to be able to present this useful data to our local communities in order for our entire community to be able to monitor the ongoing evolution of this pandemic,” Dr. Martin Stallone, president and CEO of Cayuga Health, said.

The more recent data does indicate a recent uptick in testing, which was expected due to Cornell University, Ithaca College, and other regional students returning to their respective campuses.

Cayuga Health is also “encouraging anyone” to share this link on their websites as a quick reference tool during the pandemic.

Cayuga Health has conducted more than 65,000 tests to date and recently performed 1,625 tests in a single day, the organization said.

The mass sampling center is located in portable structures at The Shops at Ithaca Mall parking lot at 40 Catherwood Road. It is available Monday through Friday for pre-scheduled drive through testing from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
