Cayuga Medical Center CEO to retire

ITHACA — Cayuga Medical Center President and CEO Dr. Rob Mackenzie will retire at the end of the year and be replaced by the hospital’s senior vice president and CFO.

Mackenzie, who has been Cayuga Medical Center’s president and CEO since January 2003, informed the hospital of his retirement plans in 2011. He made those plans public today.

“My wife Maggie and I arrived in Ithaca in 1984 after I accepted a position as a general surgeon at Surgical Associates,” Mackenzie said in a news release. “Once we settled into this wonderful community, it was obvious this is where we wanted to raise our family. Over the past two years, with our children Stephen and Christy through college and into their careers, Maggie and I began discussing the next chapter in our lives. Those discussions led me to inform the Cayuga Medical Center Board of Directors one year ago of my plans to retire at the end of 2012.”

Before becoming president and CEO, Mackenzie was named vice president for medical affairs at Cayuga Medical Center in 1994.

Current Cayuga Medical Center Senior Vice President and CFO John Rudd will take over as president and CEO when Mackenzie steps down. Rudd started at the hospital in 1996 as vice president for finance and CFO and has been senior vice president there since 2003.

“I want to thank Rob Mackenzie for his collaborative leadership over the past 10 years,” Rudd said. “Together we have experienced the most significant growth in the hospital’s history. I am looking forward to leading our dedicated team forward and improving the quality of health-care services we offer to our community.”
