Cazenovia Pop Warner League’s former treasurer accused of stealing nearly $50,000

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced they have arrested the former treasurer of the Cazenovia Pop Warner Football League for stealing nearly $50,000 from the program.

Nathan L. Hoak, age 48 of Cazenovia, was charged with 3rd degree grand larceny and 1st degree falsifying business records, both felonies.

State Police say they were contacted in June 2019 after discrepancies were discovered in the Cazenovia Pop Warner league’s bank accounts. It is alleged that, from April 2017 until February 2019, Hoak used the league’s bank account to “sustain his lifestyle,” which included making car payments and insurance payments, as well as buying gasoline, groceries, paying cell-phone bills, and covering various other expenses. Hoak is also accused of falsifying financial records and submitting them to Cazenovia Pop Warner League board members.

Hoak was arraigned in the Village of Cazenovia Court and was released on his own recognizance. A special prosecutor from Onondaga County has been assigned to prosecute the case, which State Police say was done to avoid any personal conflicts with Hoak.

Police are asking people with any information regarding this investigation to contact State Police BCI Investigator Casey Cook at (315) 366-6046.
