Cazenovia to use $160K in federal funding for planning after closure of Cazenovia College

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — The Village of Cazenovia will use a federal grant of $166,000 to help in planning following the recent closure of Cazenovia College.

The funding comes from the Economic Development Administration (EDA), U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) said in her announcement. EDA is a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The federal money will help fund a market analysis, needs assessment, economic-feasibility study, and marketing strategy to help create jobs and “diversify the local economy.”

“This vital investment by the EDA will help ensure that the Cazenovia community is able to capitalize on economic development opportunities and will help create new jobs for the area,” Gillibrand said in a news release. “I will keep fighting to ensure that New York communities receive the federal funding they need to prosper.”

Citing financial problems, Cazenovia College announced last December that it would cease operations following the recently concluded spring semester.

The school also announced in July that the New York State Police would lease the campus property for a new State Police Auxiliary Academy.
