Cellular Sales opens new store in Rome

ROME, N.Y. — Cellular Sales, which says it’s the nation’s largest Verizon Wireless retailer, has opened a store in Rome.

The 2,500-square-foot location at 320 James St. is the company’s first in Rome. Cellular Sales currently has five stores in the Syracuse, Oneida, and Utica markets.

“We have a healthy presence in upstate New York, and we’re trying to reach more communities in this part of the state,” Jason Alexander, cellular sales recruiter, said in an Oct. 30 news release. Cellular Sales has about 560 stores in the United States, and the Rome location is its 40th store in New York state.

Cellular Sales sells products ranging from smart phones, to tablets, home Internet service, and DirecTV satellite services, according to the release.

The total project cost about $600,000, including purchasing the property and constructing the building, says Luke Fletcher, regional store director for Cellular Sales’ upstate New York region. The company hired Miami–based Frontier Building Corp. to build the store.

Cellular Sales was founded in Knoxville, Tenn. in 1993. For six of the past seven years, the company landed a spot on Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 5000, a list of the fastest-growing private companies in America.

Fletcher credits the company’s growth to its customer service. “We’re service-based, not sales-based,” he says. “If you come in with a billing issue you won’t be treated differently than if you come in to buy a phone.”

Cellular Sales currently employs 4,500 people. It expects to bring 10 new jobs to the area with its new Rome store.
