Centro introduces mobile app for certain events

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Centro has introduced its Token Transit app, a new mobile app for people who want to ride a Centro bus to Syracuse football and men’s basketball games.

People can also use the Token Transit app for concerts at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview.

With the app, customers can “download an app, buy the tickets on their mobile device, show the mobile device to the driver, and board the bus,” Steven Koegel, VP of communications & business planning, said in speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning.

The app is available in the app store and on Google Play, according to the Centro website.

With the app, riders can purchase and activate their passes and board the bus using just their mobile device. People can pay with their credit or debit card, and Apple pay is also an option, according to Koegel.

“It really makes it a simpler process for people who want to use this service,” he added.

As of now, customers can only use Token Transit app for Centro’s shuttle service for the Amphitheatre and also for Orange football and men’s basketball games.

“It’s a test pilot right now,” said Koegel. “We’re trying to just test it out and see how it works.”

Centro could expand it to other services in the future, he added.

The organization announced the mobile app in conjunction with the hotel’s “paint the orange stripe” event on South Warren Street outside the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, which was promoting its upcoming football-tailgating events.
