Centro scaling back service with ongoing bus-operator shortage, seeking to hire up to 40 drivers

“We want to reassure our riders that this reduced schedule is temporary, and we will resume services as our workforce allows,” Steven Koegel, vice president of communications and business planning at Centro, said. “We continue to aggressively seek and recruit employees, but like many other transportation-related industries, we are having extreme difficulty in attracting new drivers and mechanics. We believe we offer an attractive career for many individuals including $50,000 annual salary, matching 401K, and paid training.”

The changes will not affect Saturday and Sunday service. Additionally, Centro will operate all of its bus services necessary to transport Syracuse City School District students to and from school. However, some connections for students may change and parents are encouraged to contact Centro at 315-442-3400 if they have any questions or concerns.

The service adjustments will not affect Call-A-Bus or weekly shopper bus services. Bus services that connect Oswego and Auburn to Syracuse will also not be affected, Centro said.
