Chemung Canal Trust Company to relocate its Auburn branch to building next door

AUBURN, N.Y. — Chemung Canal Trust Company plans to relocate its branch office in downtown Auburn to the building next door.

The branch will relocate from 120 Genesee St. to 110 Genesee St., a move “about 50 yards east from its current location,” Chemung Canal Trust said in a news release.

The move is expected to happen “later this spring or early summer,” the banking company said.

The new, 2,800-square-foot branch office is “roughly one third” the size of the current location.

Chemung Canal Trust plans “no reduction” in staff levels and no “anticipated” changes in office hours, once the move is complete.

“We love being downtown but our current location is a giant space, far exceeding the amount of square footage needed to efficiently and effectively provide services to our customers,” Anders Tomson, president & CEO of Chemung Canal Trust Company, said in the release. “When the opportunity became available to move next door we jumped at it. It’s like the best of both worlds.”

Chemung Canal entered the Auburn market in November 2013, when it purchased the Genesee Street and Grant Avenue branches from Charlotte, North Carolina–based Bank of America (NYSE: BAC).

Chemung Canal Trust also purchased four other Bank of America branches in Seneca Falls, Cortland, and Ithaca.

Chemung Canal Trust is the main subsidiary of Elmira–based Chemung Financial Corporation, a $1.7 billion financial-services holding company.

Chemung Financial operates 33 branches of Chemung Canal Trust Company.

Established in 1833, Chemung Canal Trust Company is the “oldest locally-owned and managed community bank” in New York, per the release.
