Chobani founder Ulukaya wins entrepreneur award

NEW BERLIN — The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards honored Chobani founder, President, and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya as the winner in the retail and consumer products category at a gala June 19 in New York City.

The award recognizes Ulukaya for his creation of Chobani Greek Yogurt, one of the fastest growing consumer brands in the country. The award encourages entrepreneurial activity among those with potential and recognizes the contribution of people who inspire others with their vision, leadership, and achievement, Ernst & Young says. The awards are presented through regional, national, and global award programs in more than 140 cities in upwards of 50 countries.

“I’m honored to be recognized among such accomplished fellow entrepreneurs by Ernst & Young,” Ulukaya said in a news release. “We started Chobani in 2005 with five people and are now over 1,200 strong. I couldn’t have done this without my great team who has helped me build this business one cup at a time and make Chobani America’s number one yogurt brand.”
