Clay–based helmet maker Cascade sold for $64 million

Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. (TSX: BAU) has agreed to acquire Cascade Helmets Holdings, Inc., a manufacturer headquartered in Clay that specializes in making lacrosse helmets. Bauer, based in Exeter, N.H., agreed to purchase Cascade for $64 million in cash in a deal slated to close June 29.

In addition to lacrosse helmets, Cascade produces women’s lacrosse eyewear, field hockey eyewear, whitewater helmets, rescue helmets, and hockey helmets. Bauer makes ice hockey, roller hockey, and lacrosse equipment and apparel.

“The acquisition of Cascade increases our presence in North America’s fastest-growing team sport and allows us to expand our product offering in our core hockey business through the use of Cascade’s proprietary helmet technology and manufacturing capabilities,” Bauer’s President and CEO Kevin Davis said in a news release. “We are very pleased with the similarities in corporate culture and will continue our focus on delivering innovative products which increase player safety and performance.”
