SYRACUSE — The Foundation for Upstate Medical University will use a $100,000 grant from the Central New York Community Foundation, Inc. to help fund construction of an infusion playroom in the Upstate Cancer Center outpatient facility.
The playroom, part of the Dr. William J. Waters Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders, will have three areas designed to cater to teens, children, and infants and toddlers. It will feature interactive panels, flooring with interactive medallions, and a ceiling treatment designed to give it a park theme.
“These creative design elements and special features will welcome the cancer center’s youngest patients into a child-friendly, non-threatening environment where they can play, socialize with peers, or relax during their chemotherapy and infusion treatments,” Upstate’s vice president for development, Eileen Pezzi, said in a news release.
