The funds are available through EDA’s CARES Act recovery assistance program.
The board is a public agency that sponsors a wide range of projects that help grow and develop communities in Central New York, the office of U.S. Representative John Katko (R–Camillus) said in announcing the funding.
This program — administered using funds provided under the CARES Act — delivers financial assistance to organizations that help communities “respond to, and recover from, the harmful impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The CNY RPDB will use the $400,000 to boost staff capacity to assist the region in responding to the pandemic, advance projects to improve broadband access, and deploy resources that support business growth and attraction in the region, per Katko’s office.
The CNY RPDB is “very pleased” to have this support, according to David Bottar, its executive director.
“This funding will allow the agency to boost its staff capacity to supplement local economic development efforts that are currently underway to help our five-county region recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Bottar said in a statement.
About CNY RPDB
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board is a public agency that was established in 1966 by Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego counties, per its website.
The CNY RPDB is governed by a 35-member board of directors that is appointed by its five member counties.
Financial support for the agency is provided by member county contributions, state and federal grants, and contract service revenue.
The CNY RPDB provides services associated with the growth and development of communities in Central New York with a focus on eight major program areas including economic development, environmental management, community development, energy management, land use and transportation planning, information and research services, and intergovernmental coordination, its website says.
