Colgate president serving as chair of New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Colgate University President Brian Casey is now serving a two-year term as chair of the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium.

His term began July 1, Colgate said in an online news release. Casey, now in his fifth year as president of Colgate, takes over for Hamilton College President David Wippman, who has held the chair since 2018.

In this new role, Casey plans to continue “long-standing efforts and explore new opportunities for interaction” among the member institutions: Colgate University, Hamilton College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Skidmore College, St. Lawrence University, and Union College.

As it has in the past, the consortium will extend grants for academic collaboration and host webinars that allow professors to engage with each other over topics of teaching methods and professional development. It will also explore new programming, such as an early career faculty retreat, to be offered for the first time in the spring of 2021, “inviting new tenure-track faculty together for consultation and connection.”

The New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium was established with the support of the New York City–based Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, per the Colgate release.
