Universal American recently named Colleen Schmidt president, Northeast Region, responsible for Universal American’s Northeast operations. Schmidt, a registered nurse, has nearly 20 years of health-care industry experience. For the past 10 years, she worked at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and was most recently vice president of government programs, clinical operations. Schmidt received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and an MBA from SUNY Binghamton.
