Cornell University and Clarkson University will use grant funding to support projects they say will generate nearly 40 manufacturing jobs.

Cornell secured three grants for separate projects, while Clarkson will use one grant award, FuzeHub said in a news release issued Wednesday.

FuzeHub, an Albany–based nonprofit organization, helps small to medium-sized manufacturing companies in New York State by matching them with technical and business resources.

It awarded a grant of nearly $59,000 to the Cornell Center for Materials Research, an award of $75,000 to the Cornell Nanoscale Science & Technology facility, a grant of nearly $75,000 to Cornell University, and an award of $75,000 to Clarkson University.

The grants will help the schools work with manufacturing partners to create up to 10 jobs at each firm.

FuzeHub awarded the funding from the Jeff Lawrence Manufacturing Innovation Fund.

Lawrence, who died in 2015, was a top executive at the Albany–based Center for Economic Growth, the manufacturing extension partnership (MEP) center for the Capital Region, and a supporter of New York manufacturing and entrepreneurial communities.

The manufacturing-innovation fund, which was established with $1 million annually for five years, supports activities designed to “spur technology development and commercialization” across New York state.

FuzeHub is administering the fund as part of its role as the Empire State Development (ESD)-designated statewide MEP center.
