Cornell names new academic director for Center for Real Estate and Finance

ITHACA — The Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF) at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration has announced its new academic director.

Daniel Quan, a professor in Asian hospitality management at Cornell, will serve a three-year term that began this academic year, according to a news release from the university’s School of Hotel Administration.

Quan succeeds Jan deRoos, who led CREF since its establishment in 2009, according to the release.

As the CREF academic director, Quan will oversee real-estate education, research, and outreach. His teaching and research interests include real estate and real-estate finance, with an emphasis on securitization and structured finance.

Prior to his Cornell appointment, Quan was the chief mortgage economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C. He also held academic appointments at the University of Texas, UCLA’s School of Business, University of British Columbia, and Uppsala University, according to the news release.
