Corona named interim CEO of Upstate University Hospital

Corona currently serves as chairman of Upstate Medical’s department of pathology; associate dean for academic and industry affairs; and chief innovation officer, the medical school said.

While he serves as interim CEO, Upstate Medical plans a reorganization of Corona’s current responsibilities “in the coming days.”

“Dr. Corona is a well-respected leader at Upstate and in the community with an impressive record of success in health care administration,” Dr. Danielle Laraque-Arena, president of Upstate Medical University, said in the school’s news release. “I am grateful for his service in this interim role.”

Laraque-Arena also thanked Scott for his service to Upstate.

“Steven’s leadership has helped oversee the hospital’s clinical growth and has positioned us for future success. I wish him well in his future endeavors,” she added.

Corona’s association with Upstate began in the 1990s when he founded the university’s telemedicine program.

After serving as VP and chief medical officer at Welch Allyn, a medical-device maker in Skaneateles Falls, Corona returned to Upstate to lead its pathology department.

He has been “instrumental” in leading the development of the Upstate MIND (Medical Innovation and Novel Discovery) program at the CNY Biotech Accelerator, the medical school said.
