Cortland nurse aid accused of abusing nursing-home resident

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A nurse aide in Cortland has pleaded not guilty to charges that she abused a nursing-home resident in 2014 and “lied” to cover it up.

Noelle Otto, 28, is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree; wilful violation of health laws; and falsifying business records in the first degree.

Otto on Wednesday was arraigned in Cortland City Court and released, the office of New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a news release issued on Thursday.

Judge Elizabeth Burns scheduled a pretrial for March 2.

The incident occurred on December 5, 2014, at Crown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, a nursing home located at 28 Kellogg Road in Cortland.

Otto allegedly threw a female resident’s feet, covered her mouth, slapped her arms and legs, and slammed her arms against the bedside table.

She then allegedly made a false statement to the facility regarding the incident, Schneiderman’s office said.
