Crouse College of Nursing appoints new director

SYRACUSE — Crouse Hospital has appointed Pat Schmidt-Zawko as director of its College of Nursing.

Zawko fills the position vacated when Crouse named former director Ann Sedore its chief nursing officer back in March, according to the hospital.

Zawko, who resides in Rome, most recently served as associate clinical professor of nursing and director of online learning at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, Crouse said in a news release.

She holds a doctorate in educational leadership, curriculum, and instruction from University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in nursing administration from the SUNYIT in Marcy, the hospital said.

The Atlanta, Ga.–based Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), an independent-regulatory agency, has accredited the Crouse Hospital College of Nursing, according to the hospital.

ACEN is the former National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Inc., which announced its name change in an online letter dated May 19, according to its website.

The college offers a two-year associate-degree program that includes classroom, clinical, laboratory, and computer-assisted instruction, the hospital said.

Crouse Hospital contends the college’s program design, low student-to-instructor ratios, and affordable tuition as are among the school’s “strengths.”
