Crouse Health spending $2.5 million on upgrades to pediatric cardiac catheterization suite

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Crouse Health has started work on a $2.5 million renovation and upgrade of its 700-square-foot pediatric cardiac catheterization suite, located in the hospital’s Diane and Bob Miron cardiac-care center.

Crouse Health expects crews to finish work on the renovations by the end of November, Dr. Joseph Battaglia, chief of cardiology at Crouse, said in a Thursday news release. The current pediatric catheterization lab was constructed in 1999 and is “nearing the end of its useful life.”

The Hayner Hoyt Corporation of Syracuse is handling the construction work, while Salina–based Bivens + Associates Architects designed the project, Crouse Health tells BJNN in an email message.

The project involves crews installing a new, next generation Phillips cardiac biplane system. It includes an image-guided platform designed to provide high-resolution imaging over a large field of view for interventional cardiology, pediatric cardiology, and electrophysiology procedures.

The project work will also include an installation of new LED (light-emitting diode) lighting.

Crouse Health says it is “home to the region’s only pediatric catheterization program,” a partnership with Syracuse–based Pediatric Cardiology Associates that provides “life-saving” cardiac care to more than 150 infants, young children, and teens annually, per the news release.

In addition to the pediatric cardiac catheterization suite, the Miron Cardiac Care Center includes two adult catheterization labs and an adult electrophysiology lab. Between the four procedure rooms, Crouse Health performs more than 2,500 interventional and diagnostic cardiac procedures annually, the health-care system said.
