Crouse Hospital to use $406K grant to buy 3D mammography machine for its breast-health center

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Crouse Hospital says it’s buying a digital tomosynthesis machine for its Hadley J. Falk Breast Health Center, a device that provides 3D mammography tests.

The Saint Agatha Foundation, based in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, awarded the Crouse Health Foundation $406,000 in funding to help pay for the machine.

The Breast Health Center administered 8,500 3D mammography tests in 2022, Crouse Health said.

The Hadley J. Falk Breast Health Center was the “first facility in the area” to provide 3D mammography using digital tomosynthesis, Crouse Health contends. It’ll use the Saint Agatha funds to purchase the next generation of the detection equipment.

The new equipment will make breast cancers “easier to see” in dense breast tissue, will make breast screening more comfortable, and will provide the “lowest possible” dose of radiation, the health system contends.
