Cuomo designates Gregg Sayre as interim chair of Public Service Commission

ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has named Gregg Sayre interim chair of the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC).

Sayre will also serve as interim CEO of the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS), the department said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Sayre has served as a PSC commissioner since 2012 and is recognized as an “expert” in telecommunications law and has “extensive” experience as a regulatory attorney, the DPS contends.

Current chair Audrey Zibelman plans to step down from the position on Thursday to prepare for her new job as the CEO of the Australian Energy Market Operator.

Prior to starting with the PSC, Sayre was associate general counsel of Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: FTR).

At Frontier, Sayre was responsible for all regulatory legal issues and proceedings in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.
