Cuomo says New York bowling alleys can reopen Monday, guidance on gyms coming Monday as well

ALBANY, N.Y. — Bowling alleys throughout New York state will be allowed to reopen starting Monday with strict safety protocols in place, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.

The governor also indicated that the state would release protocols for gymnasiums on Monday as well. He spoke during a late morning conference call.

Bowling alleys will be able to operate at a 50 percent maximum occupancy limit, per the governor.

In addition, face coverings and social distancing will be required at all times; every other lane must be closed; and patrons need to stay with their group at their assigned lane. The state is also requiring “thorough” cleaning and disinfection of shared or rented equipment between each use, and all food service must follow all state-issued guidance.

“I’m … happy to report that we will be able to open bowling alleys across the state with strict safety protocols in place, providing a level of fun and recreation at a time when New Yorkers really need it,” Cuomo said.
