SYRACUSE — The New York State Board for Public Accountancy (NYSBPA) on April 23 elected David de Silva to serve a second, one-year term as the board chairman during its meeting in New York City.

Dermody, Burke & Brown, CPAs, LLC (DB&B), where de Silva is a certified public accountant and partner, announced his election in a news release distributed today.

The state Board for Public Accountancy advises the New York State Education Department and New York State Board of Regents on licensing requirements, licensing examinations, and practice issues, according to the DB&B news release.

Board members participate in licensure disciplinary and/or restoration and moral-character proceedings, the news release stated.

DB&B’s de Silva has more than 30 years of experience providing accounting, auditing, and consulting services to nonprofit organizations.

He currently leads Dermody, Burke & Brown’s nonprofit specialty niche that serves more than 100 organizations in Upstate and Central New York, according to the release.

The accounting firm said that de Silva is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and is a recipient of the AICPA certificate of achievement in governmental and nonprofit accounting and auditing.
