Demolition planned for 90-foot-tall section of former Penguin Random House warehouse in Kirkwood

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. — Motorists in Broome County may notice demolition work at the former Penguin Random House facility in Kirkwood as the current owners tear down 62,000 square feet of the Triumph Business Center.

Equilibrium Equities of Pennsylvania bought the property in 2015 and renamed it.

The Triumph Center is visible from Interstate 81 and State Route 11. The portion to be demolished stands 90 feet tall. It was built by Penguin Random House in 1999 with a specialized system that automatically extracted and inserted pallet loads of merchandise, according to a news release from Equilibrium.

When the demolition is done, there will still be 450,000 square feet of warehouse and office space at the site, the company said. Tenants at the center include Shop-Vac, Max Finkelstein Tires, and Rogers Logistics, per the release.

Equilibrium, headquartered in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, is an investment and development company focused on property in the Northeast. Since 2001, it has acquired, renovated, and developed more than 4.5 million square feet of space and said it has another 1 million square feet of additional projects in the pipeline.
