CONKLIN, N.Y. — Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc. (NYSE: DKS) is building the company’s “first-ever, in-house” e-commerce fulfillment center in Conklin in Broome County.

The company, headquartered in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a sporting-goods retailer that Dick Stack founded in Binghamton.

The company is building a 245,000-square-foot addition to its recently opened distribution center in the Broome County Corporate Park in the town of Conklin, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a news release.

The expansion will lead to the creation of additional full-time jobs, totaling more than 500 new, full-time jobs at the site over the next five years.

To “encourage” the firm’s continued expansion in the region, Empire State Development will provide up to $1.2 million through the Excelsior tax-credit program, Cuomo’s office said. Previously announced state investments in the sporting-goods retailer include $5.25 million through a Southern Tier Soaring, Upstate Revitalization Initiative grant, and up to $6 million through the Excelsior jobs program in exchange for the job commitments.

The latest state investment in the company is “aligned” with Southern Tier Soaring, the “regionally-designed, comprehensive strategy to revitalize communities and grow the economy,” as described in Cuomo’s news release.

“We’re thrilled to expand our footprint in our company’s hometown of Binghamton, [New York] with the addition of our first-ever in-house, e-commerce fulfillment center,” George Giacobbe, senior VP of supply chain at Dick’s Sporting Goods, said in Cuomo’s news release.

In the summer of 2016, Cuomo announced that Dick’s would open a new distribution center in the Southern Tier. That new facility officially opened its doors in January of this year. The distribution and fulfillment centers will “serve to further strengthen” the company’s roots in Binghamton, Cuomo’s office said.
