The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) has hired Nashville, Tennessee–based TransCore to design, develop, and maintain a next-generation, toll-collection system.
The current system at the bridge dates from 1992. The new system is scheduled to be completed by fall 2019, according to the bridge authority.
“The opening of the Thousand Islands Bridge 80 years ago marked a new era of connectivity and commerce between our two nations,” Thousand Islands Bridge Authority Executive Director Robert G. Horr III, said in a release. “We fully expect this new toll collection system to enable even greater international convenience and mobility, and support long-term expected growth in the region.”
“TransCore will maintain the new system in partnership with TIBA staff,” according to the release.
TransCore says the new system will integrate vehicle identification, classification, and video capture.
