Edward S. Barton Trust awards MVHS Waterville medical office $100K grant

WATERVILLE, N.Y. — The Edward S. Barton Trust has awarded the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) Foundation a two year, $100,000 grant for renovations at the MVHS Waterville medical office.

The medical office is located at the Madison Street Business Park. The MVHS Medical Group in January consolidated its two Waterville medical office locations at the Madison Street Business Park location, MVHS said in a Tuesday news release. The other office was located along West Main St.

MVHS primary care physicians Mallory Sullivan and Michelle Rhymestine will relocate to the Madison Street Business Park office from West Main Street and join the current practice of Dr. David Petrie and Nicole Schreck.

The office’s new design and construction will “help improve the patient experience, office flow and offer an up-to-date, healing location for patients to receive care,” MVHS contends. On average, the Waterville medical office sees 813 patients a month and has roughly 9,700 patient visits a year.

Providers treat patients ranging from newborns to adults.

“The Barton Trust is pleased to provide the MVHS Foundation with a $100,000 grant over two years to assist with relocating their clinic in Waterville so that local residents can continue to receive quality medical services,” William Getman, co-trustee of the Edward S. Barton Trust, said in the MVHS release.

The MVHS Foundation — the fundraising arm of MVHS — said it is “grateful” for the trust’s generosity.

“Our primary-care offices are the first line of defense when it comes to improving patient health. The providers and staff offer care for everything from infections to chronic conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure,” John Forbes, VP of philanthropy for MVHS Foundation, said. “Our goal with this new, combined medical office is to create a positive, quality, patient experience for residents of Waterville and the surrounding communities.”

About the Edward S. Barton Trust

The last will and testament of Edward S. Barton of Waterville was to “establish a charitable remainder trust to invest and reinvest the principal thereof and collect the income” and use it for educational, municipal and charitable purposes for organizations located in and around the village of Waterville.

Bank of America, N.A. (NYSE: MER-K), as co-trustee of the Edward S. Barton Trust, is responsible for the management of the fund’s assets and administration of its grant-making program. As co-trustee, the bank ensures that philanthropic intentions of the donor are honored, MVHS explained.
