Erie Canal Museum names Stetson executive director

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Erie Canal Museum announced that its board of trustees recently appointed Natalie Stetson, of Syracuse, as its executive director.

Stetson joined the museum on March 7 after two and a half years as director of development at the Seward House in Auburn. Her new position is a “homecoming of sorts,” because Stetson started at the Erie Canal Museum as a collections intern in 2010 while earning a master’s degree in museum studies at Syracuse University, the museum said in a news release. She became its director of development and marketing later that year.

Stetson is now responsible for managing the museum’s day-to-day operations, serving as liaison and adviser to the nonprofit’s board of directors and board committees. She also represents the museum to the local, regional, and national communities it serves, and develops and maintains sustainable external revenue streams.

She holds a master’s degree in museum studies from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in literature and American studies from the Honors College of Florida Atlantic University. Stetson serves on the boards of the Westcott Neighborhood Association and the Cayuga County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Erie Canal Museum says it shares 200 years of Erie Canal history through interactive displays, hands-on exhibits, narrative audio tracks, and original artifacts.
