SYRACUSE — The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) will host a competition in December to identify outstanding research on natural polymers.
The Eastman Chemical Co.’s annual competition, which began in 2006, is part of Eastman’s recognition of ESF as a “focus school” in wood and cellulose chemistry, according to the college. The company has been involved with ESF for years and was one of the founding sponsors of the Cellulose Research Institute at the school in 1957.
The competition will judge research by ESF graduate students. Entrants will present a non-technical article on why their research matters and a technical poster.
Prizes of $1,500, $1,000, and $500 will be awarded.
Eastman Chemical (NYSE: EMN), based in Kingsport, Tenn., produces a range of specialty chemicals, additives, and advanced materials. The company had net sales of $7.18 billion in 2011.
