Excellus award benefits wound program at Masonic Care Community

UTICA, N.Y. — The Masonic Care Community (MCC) has received a $9,837 Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Health and Wellness Award to support MCC’s wound-care program.

Wounds are a common medical issue that can affect people’s health and quality of life. Older individuals can be vulnerable to chronic wounds due to age-related changes.

“This critical funding provided by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will be used for additional wound-care training certification for our assistant director of nursing and wound-care specialist,” Mara Mulligan, MCC director of strategic marketing and philanthropy, said in a news release. “We will also secure new shortwave diathermy equipment which uses safe, electromagnetic waves to create therapeutic effects and assists in the treatment of wounds to improve health-care outcomes for our residents.”
