UTICA, N.Y. — Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Central New York’s largest health insurer, announced it has named Dr. Mew Kwan Chan-House as one of the company’s medical directors working in the Utica region.

Chan-House, a licensed and board-certified pediatric physician, has 12 years of clinical, administrative, and teaching experience in both hospital and private-practice settings, the nonprofit said in a news release. In her new role, she is responsible for utilization, disease management, and health-care quality reviews at Excellus.

Prior to joining Excellus, Chan-House was medical director of pediatrics for Bassett Medical Group/A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta. She also was medical director for the Oneonta City School District.

Before that, Chan-House was general pediatrician for Holyoke Pediatric Associates in Holyoke, Massachusetts and served as a general pediatrician and partner with Riverbend Medical Group in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Excellus said.

Chan-House’s teaching activities have included serving as a medical-student preceptor at Columbia School of Medicine/Bassett Medical School in Cooperstown and at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Baystate Medical Center is the western campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, according to the Tufts website. Chan-House also previously served as an inpatient attending physician–resident preceptor at Baystate Medical Center.

Chan-House received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Albany. She is a graduate of the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine, and completed her pediatric residency at Baystate Medical Center.
