Excellus parent’s board elects new chairman

The Lifetime Healthcare Companies announced its board of directors has elected A. Thomas Hildebrandt of Rochester as its chairman.

The Rochester–based Lifetime Healthcare Companies is the parent of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, the largest health insurer in Central New York.

Hildebrandt, who has served on Lifetime’s board of directors since 2010, is special assistant to the president and CEO of the Rochester–based Hillside Family of Agencies and the president of Hillside Children’s Foundation, according to the Lifetime news release.

As the largest nonprofit health insurer in the state, the company “focuses primarily” on upstate New York, Christopher Booth, CEO of Lifetime and Excellus, said in the news release.

“It’s important for our board to have strong representation from the communities we serve. Tom Hildebrandt has excellent business acumen and a long record of community involvement in the Rochester area,” Booth said.

The board also elected four new members from throughout the Upstate area, including Judith Sweet, co-founder and president of Strategic Financial Services in Utica.

The Lifetime Healthcare Companies is a family of companies that provides health-insurance coverage to more than 1.8 million people across 39 counties in New York, along with medical care, hospice care, and long-term care coverage.

Lifetime generated revenue of about $6.9 billion in 2013 and employs 6,000 people in upstate New York, according to its news release.
