Excellus BlueCross BlueShield announced that $100,000 is available to help fund health and wellness programs in upstate New York.

Nonprofit organizations in Upstate can apply for Excellus’s community-health award grants. Rochester–based Excellus is Central New York’s largest health insurer.

Nonprofits in Excellus’ 31-county upstate New York region can apply for an award of up to $4,000 each. A recipient can use the award for programs that have “clear goals” to improve the health or health care of a specific population.

The health insurer will consider programs that improve the health status of the community, reduce the incidence of specific diseases, and promote health education and further overall wellness.

The application deadline is Oct. 8. For additional information and the online application, click here. Excellus will announce award winners in November.

Earlier this year, seven Central New York organizations were selected as Excellus community health award winners from among close to 60 applications submitted in the five-county Central New York region. The winning organizations included Auburn YMCA-WEIU in Auburn, Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango, Cortland Regional Medical Center in Cortland, Foodnet Meals on Wheels in Ithaca, Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County in Ithaca, Prevention Network in Syracuse, and WCNY in Syracuse.
