Excellus seeks nonprofit applications for community health awards

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield on Tuesday announced that nonprofits in upstate New York can apply for the health insurer’s latest edition of community health award grants.

A total of $95,000 is available to help pay for health and wellness programs in the region, Excellus said.

Nonprofit organizations in the health insurer’s 31-county upstate New York region can apply for an award of up to $4,000 each.

Organizations can use the award for programs that have “clear goals to improve the health or health care of a specific population.”

Excellus said it will consider programs that improve the health status of the community, reduce the incidence of specific diseases, promote health education, and “further overall wellness.”

The deadline to apply to be considered for an Excellus community health award is Feb. 19. Additional information is available at www.excellusbcbs.com/community.

Excellus will announce the awards in March.
