FAA awards Sensis new contract worth up to $119M

DeWITT — Saab Sensis Corp. won a contract worth up to $119 million from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to deploy a combination of technology at nine U.S. airports.

The FAA initially awarded $5 million of a five-year, $54 million contract. Options included in the deal are worth another $65 million.

Sensis will bring a variety of technologies to the airports involved, giving them a fused view runways and taxiways. The airports include Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska, Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Kentucky, Cleveland Hopkins Airport in Ohio, Kansas City International Airport in Missouri, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana, Pittsburgh International Airport in Pennsylvania, Portland International Airport in Oregon, and San Francisco International Airport in California.

“This program further strengthens Saab Sensis’ position as the world leader in advanced surface movement guidance and control systems and surface conflict detection and alerting with more than 50 sites worldwide,” Ken Kaminski, Sensis vice president and general manager, said in a news release.

Sensis is a subsidiary of the Swedish defense and security company Saab. Sensis, based in DeWitt, provides sensor technologies, radar systems, modeling, and simulation for defense, civil aviation, airport, and airline customers.

The company employs about 600 people at eight locations and serves more than 60 customers in 35 countries. It has about 500 employees in Central New York.
